"Statuia vie" de Antony Gormley in Trafalgar Square

Almost 5,000 people sign up to take their place as part of sculptor's 'living artwork' in Trafalgar Square.

Ever since Antony Gormley was commissioned to winch people up on a plinth in the middle of Trafalgar Square to do whatever they wished, doom-mongers have predicted the "living artwork" would become a soapbox for extremists, nudists and the nation's most depraved exhibitionists.

But for the sculptor, there is only one worse outcome than this: for none of the above to happen.

His Fourth Plinth commission will be installed from 6 July and Gormley said yesterday that he would be disappointed if everyone who was chosen to be winched atop the plinth as part of One and Other behaved sensibly.

Ai dracului englejii astia, cum reusesc ei sa vina cu proiectul unui monument nou nout, lucrare originala de artistul Mark Wallinger, care sa coste numai vreo 2 milioane de lire sterline? Mi se pare ciudat, in special daca ne gandim la Carol I si statuia lui cea noua - deja acuzata de plagiat de catre oameni importanti (vezi postul precedent) - care se spune ca va costa mai multe milioane de euro. Unde mai pui ca Wallinger vine cu un cal de 50 de metri. Lasa faptul ca proiectul este extraordinar, dar The Guardian se plange in treacat ca ar fi de doua ori mai scump decat Angel of the North, colosala lucrare a lui Antony Gormley.

Pretul mai ieftin vine, probabil, din faptul ca Wallinger nu va folosi bronz, ci otel. Poate facem un Carol I din otel? S-ar potrivi cu coroana de otel care incununa fruntea regala odinioara, nu?
